DETAILS

Cyber Analysts are essentially a combination of a signals and an intelligence operator in a regular military operations center. They study the enemy, understand how they may attack the entity they protect and look for evidence that the enemy is in fact trying to attack. When they detect an attack, they execute the countermeasures and report their courses of action up the chain of command.

What are they defending? The computer networks of the organization or government that they work for.

How do they do it? They utilize ‘plug-and-play’ software platform to monitor the network and open source intelligence to look for ‘chatter’ about the attack they are witnessing on the network. They then execute a counter response with the platforms and write after action reports for the CoC.
